| Tonight’s honoree was a member of the Trimble High School Class of 2002. He was a three-year letterman in football and a two-way starter on the 2001 team which won the Tri Valley Conference championship and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs, with a final record of 10 wins and 2 losses.
At 6’1” and 270 pounds, big number 51 was the anchor of the Tomcats’ line, and for his efforts, he was named first team all Tri Valley Conference, first team all district, and honorable mention All-Ohio. In addition to his athletic ability, tonight’s honoree had a wide variety of interests and attributes. He was a member of the National Honor Society, and president of the Student Council. He was a member of the Mock Trial Team, and received a congressional nomination to attend the United States Naval Academy. He was a delegate to Buckeye Boys State and after his participation in that program, he returned in subsequent years to serve as a counselor to the delegates. He was an active participant in Civil War re-enactments and a member of various Civil War organizations, including the National Civil War Artillery Association. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that “Life is not judged by its longevity, but by its vitality”. By that measure, the life of tonight’s honoree extended well beyond the span of his years. Although he lived but 19 years, through his example we have learned many important lessons. He taught us that you can be both athletic and academic. He taught us to value our heritage, and the sacrifices made by our ancestors. He taught us that you don’t have to be mean to be tough. And most importantly, he taught us to value life, and to realize how precious and yet how fragile and fleeting it can be. Tonight’s honoree and the recipient of the Tomcat Excellence Award for 2004 is Raymond Travis Nott. Since Travis lost his life in an automobile accident on July 21, 2003, the award will be presented to his father Ike Nott. With Ike this evening are Trent and Josh and other members of the Nott family. Presenting the award on behalf of the Alumni Football Players Association and representing Travis’ friends and teammates are Adam Faires, Phillip Faires, and Jeff Trace. On behalf of the Trimble Alumni Football Players Association, and all of the Tomcat fans, we would like to express our appreciation for the positive contribution made to Tomcat football and the entire Trimble Community by Travis Nott. |
