| A part of all great rivalries is the controversy that goes along with them. Throughout the Trimble/Nelsonville-York rivarlry their have been moments where a call altered the outcome of the game. This page is not sour grapes, or critize the officials, or even saying they were bad calls, but more of a record of some of the more notorious calls in the series. I chose to do six so each team has the same amount. Most of you who open this page already know what number one will be, so here is my list of the other five. | ||||||||
| #6: 1988; with the score tied in the third quarter, Trimble appeared to force the Buckeyes into a punting situation, but were flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Two plays later Tom Campbell put the Buckeyes in the lead for good on a 25-yard run. | ||||||||
| #5: 1989; leading 2-0 Nelsonville-York is called for offensive pass interference deep in their own territory. The penalty forced the Buckeyes to punt deep in their own territory and Trimble received good field position. They would score the game's only touchdown on that next possession. | ||||||||
| #4: 1995; Down 12-6 late in the third quarter, Trimble's defensive line pressured the Buckeye quarterback, as he is going down, Trimble's Stephen Snyder swats the ball from his hand which is picked up by teammate Marty Christa who races into the clear, while Christa is crossing the 15-yard line a whistle blows the play dead. Christa continues into the endzone, and the official flags him for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. With the drive given new life, Nelsonville-York scores to put the game out of reach. | ||||||||
| #3: 2001; as Nelsonville-York was driving for a last minute score to potentially tie the game, the Buckeyes are flagged for illegal substitution and backed up 15 yards. A fourth and one turned into a fourth and sixteen. Instead of having a multitude of plays to call, the Buckeyes were forced to pass which was intercepted. | ||||||||
| #2: 1982; a tie game at the time, Trimble running back Chris Adams breaks a run for a touchdown that was called back on a holding penalty. Trimble instead of taking the lead now had to attempt a long field goal that they missed. Nelsonville-York then took drove for the go ahead score and never looked back. | ||||||||
| #1: 2004; trailing 19-13 with one second left in the game, Nelsonville-York quarterback Jay Edwards finds David Jolley who laterals the ball to Charlie Wend, who then laterals to Eric Davis who races into the endzone. The officials ruled the second lateral was forward and negated the score, and declares the game over. | ||||||||
