| Early in the first quarter in the 1988 Trimble/Nelsonville-York game, Trimble starting Sophomore quarterback Roger Bingman found Aaron McCown for a 73-yard touchdown strike to signal that this season’s rivalry game would be different from the blowouts of the last two years. The Buckeyes answered back on the next possession when Tim Bookman scored from two-yards out. Quarterback Heyes Dean found Brian Coakley for the two-point conversion and the Bucks took the lead at 8-6. After a bad snap on the following Trimble punt, Nelsonville-York took over on the Tomcat 15-yard line. On a fourth and goal from the nine, Dean found Heath Savage on a touchdown strike. The two-point conversion was no good and the score read 14-6. As time was running out of the first half, Trimble partially blocked a punt and recovered it on the Buckeye 21-yard line. The next play Bingman found Hurston Richmond for the score. Bingman then hit Todd Fouts for the two-point conversion, and going into the half the score was tied at 14. It wasn’t until late in the third quarter that the tie was broken. Nelsonville-York running back Tom Campbell broke loose 25-yards to pay dirt and again, Dean hit Coakley for two. Trimble then drove to the Buckeye ten-yard line, but turned the ball over on downs. With two minutes left in the game, Dean sealed the Tomcats fate by finding Trent Ball for a five-yard score. When the final gun sounded, the Buckeyes had defeated Trimble 28-14. This was the final week of TVC competition for both squads and with a 6-2 league record, the Buckeyes took second.
