Nelsonville-York Buckeyes amassed 620 yards of total offense on their way to a 51-12 win over the Tomcats in 1987. On their first possession of the game, Nelsonville-York’s Steve Netter found paydirt from 24-yards out to start the scoring.  The next Buckeye possession saw almost a repeat performance as Netter went in from 21-yards away.  Danny Canter then closed out the first quarter scoring with a seven-yard run and the Bucks were up 20-0.  When it seemed that Nelsonville-York would continue on the same path in the second, Trimble’s Jeff Holbert stepped in front of a Buckeye pass in the endzone and raced 99-yards before being knocked out of bounds at the one. A play later, freshman quarterback Roger Bingman scored on the one-yard sneak. As the second closed the Buckeyes added two passing touchdowns in rapid succession to expand the halftime lead to 33-0. The first of those two scores was a Heyes Dean to Scott Young nine-yard connection. After Chad Savage picked off his third pass of the half, and exactly a minute later, Dean found Dave Kirkendall for a 40-yard score. The Buckeyes started the second half where they left of in the first with Young scoring from two-yards. Nelsonville-York then began substituting freely and added a Chris Morris one-yard score and an 83-yard sprint by Tom Campbell. Trimble’s final score came in the form of a 49-yard pass from Bingman to Rusty Martin, capping the score at 51-12. Nelsonville-York raised its record to 6-3 with one game left to play, while Trimble finishes the season 1-9. In the loss, Bingman threw for 207 yards becoming the first freshman in Trimble history to throw for over 1,000 yards in a season.
