| The 1986 Trimble/Nelsonville-York game was unique in the fact that for the first time since the rivalry started, no matter who won, both teams would finish the season with a losing record, as each team entered the contest with 3-6 records. Nelsonville-York’s Danny Canter gave the Buckeyes a quick advantage as he tallied two first quarter scores of one and 34-yards respectively. Leading rusher of the game Brian Jolley (89 yards) ended the scoring for the quarter by finding the endzone from five-yards out. Freshman quarterback Heyes Dean started the second quarter scoring with a one-yard plunge, then found Chad Savage for a 41-yard score before the half. Up by 31 at halftime, the Buckeyes would only add a 20-yard Savage field goal in the second half. Nelsonville-York finished the year 4-6 while Trimble season ended at 3-7.
