Going into the 1985 Nelsonville-York game, not a whole lot had gone right for the Tomcats. Trimble was carrying a 4-5 overall record and a 4-4 league record at the onset of the game. However once the game started it became immediatley apparent that this would be Trimble's night. The Tomcats scored on their opening three possessions to jump out to a 20-0 first quarter lead enroute to a 41-6 win over the Buckeyes. After a bad snap to the punter, Trimble took advantage of the good field position when Denny Davis found Jimmy Holbert for a 15 yard score. Jeff Koons' kick was good and the score was 7-0. On Trimble's next possession, John Long broke a 64-yard run that set up the second Davis to Holbert strike, this time from 14-yards, to up the score to 14-0. Davis then hit Trimble running back Mark Campbell for a 31-yard score to close the scoring for the first quarter. The lone score for the second quarter was on a one-yard Campbell run bringing the halftime score to 27-0. In the third quarter Trimble fullback Ron Huiss scored from five-yards away, and with the kick the score was 34-0. Trimble's final score came in the form of a 15-yard Campbell run and the Tomcats had a 41-0 lead. With 14 seconds left in the contest, the Buckeyes got on the board when Ryan McClain scored on a two-yard run. Both teams finished the year at 5-5 and tied for fourth in the TVC.
