It was still a Trimble/Nelsonville-York game, but for the first time in five years, no TVC championship was at stake. For the first time in three season, neither team was shooting for an undefeated record or a shot at the playoffs. Instead each team entered the contest with identical 6-3 records. In the first quarter Trimble opened the scoring when Kenny McClellan scored from two yard out to end a drive that started when the Tomcats partially blocked a Nelsonville-York punt. The extra-point was blocked and the game would remain 6-0 until another blocked punt, this time by the Buckeyes set up the final score of the contest. Nelsonville-York's Greg Jones blocked the punt that gave the Buckeyes the ball on the Trimble 15-yard line. Jeff Talbert score the only Nelsonville-York touchdown with 4:57 left in the game. The extra-point was no good. Nelsonville-York had the final scoring threat of the game, but time ran out on the Buckeyes when they were 28-yards away. Both defenses excelled in the game. The Tomcat defense allowed just 106 total yards by the Buckeyes, and the Nelsonville-York "D" played a great game of bend but don't break defense, allowing Trimble to drive to the 13, 9, 8, and 1, all without permitting the score. Both teams finish the year with 6-3-1 records. This also would be the final game that Ed Bolin coached the Trimble Tomcats, the following year he accepted a job at Waverly High School.
