For the third straight year the Trimble/Nelsonville-York game had hopes of a TVC Championship, an undefeated season, and a playoff birth on the line. For the second consecutive year the Buckeyes were hoping to cap a perfect season and venture into the playoffs. The defenses ranked #1 and #2 in the area dominated a scoreless first quarter. On the first possession of the second quarter, the Buckeyes, sparked by a fourth and eleven conversion broke the scoreless tie when Mike Bishop scored from a yard away. The two-point conversion was no good and the score was 6-0. Trimble didn't waste any time on their next possession. On the first play of the drive Paul Jewell hit Bob Bing for a 54-yard score on the halfback option pass. The kick was blocked and the score was tied again this time at six. After a missed Trimble field goal later in the second the Buckeyes took the lead for good with Bishop's second one-yard scoring run. This time Buckeye quarterback Tom Taggart found Donny Sawyers for the two point conversion and the halftime score was 14-6. Trimble's first possession of the second half was capped by a 10-yard pass from Mark Echstenkamper to Steve Standley, but the two-point conversion failed and the score stood at 14-12. Nelsonville-York answered back with a 10 play 69-yard drive that featured a nine-yard Jeff Talbert score. After Trimble's next drive failed, Taggert found Trent Galentin for a 65-yard touchdown. Mike Bishop's two-point conversion run ended the scoring for the game at 28-12. By winning this game the Buckeyes extended thier winning streak to 23 games, and vaulted themselves for the second straight year into the OHSAA State Playoffs. Trimble finished the season 7-2-1.
