For the second straight year a TVC title, undefeated season, and a trip to the playoffs were on the line for one of the squads in the Trimble/Nelsonville-York match-up.  This time it was the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes that were on the quest for perfection.  The game seemed to start out with all the signs of a big win for the Buckeyes.  On the first possession of the game the Tomcats were held to negative yardage and forced to punt.  Nelsonville-York, on the back of tailback Mike Bishop, drove 49-yards for their first score when Bishop plunged four yards for the opening score.  With a 7-0 score, the advantage shifted to the Tomcats. Trimble receiver Scott Holbert returned the ensuing kickoff 81 yards for the touchdown.  The extra-point was no good and the score was 7-6.  Nelsonville-York then fumbled the following kick and the Tomcats took over deep in Buckeye territory.  Nelsonville-York linebacker Brian Mays killed the drive with an interception at the four yard line, then returned it to the 44-yard line.  Nelsonville-York gave Trimble another opportunity when they fumbled and Tomcat Scott Russell recovered on the Buckeye 48.  Three plays later the Buckeyes decided that the time for charity was over.  Defensive back Trent Galentin picked off a pass and gave the Buckeyes the ball on the 49-yard line.  Mike Bishop's next four-yard score started what was to be a 27 point second quarter that put the game out of reach.  With the score 13-6 the Buckeyes' special teams forced a fumble on the kick and took over deep in Tomcat territory.  Bishop scored his third touchdown of the half and the score was 21-0.  On their next possession, Trimble fumbled a pitch-out that was recovered by Nelsonville-York's Greg Jones.  The next play Brad Woodson scored on a 33-yard run and the Buckeyes were up 28-6.  Nelsonville-York's last score of the first half came from five-yards out when Bishop found Galentin on a halfback pass.  With one second left in the half, Trimble quarterback Mark Echstenkamper found Randy Hooper for a 68-yard score.  The two-point conversion failed and the halftime score was 34-12.  Early in the third quarter the Tomcats pushed to the Buckeye 10, but turned the ball over on downs.  The next play Bishop capped the scoring by racing 90-yards for his fourth touchdown of the contest.  The Buckeyes had built up the momentum they needed for a great playoff run, and later a state championship.
