1980 Trimble Tomcats 41 Nelsonville-York Buckeyes 0
Week 10
Location: Polley Field, Nelsonville, Ohio
Coaches: Trimble - Ed Bolin, Nelsonville-York - Dave Boston
Series Record: NYHS 5 THS 5 Ties 1
The 1980 Trimble/Nelsonville-York game was the first of the series to be played in the final week of league play and the final week of the season.  The previous two years both teams had each won a rivalry game, and also shared a portion of the TVC championship.  For this game, both teams entered with perfect league records of 5-0 and Trimble was attempting to complete their first ever undefeated season and a trip to the playoffs.  The Buckeyes took the opening kickoff and drove to midfield before being stopped on a fourth and short.  Trimble took over and passed their way to the Nelsonville-York five where the drive ended with a 25-yard Mike Roback field goal.  Nelsonville took the next series down to the Trimble 15, but missed a field goal of their own.  The first quarter ended with the Tomcats leading 3-0.  It took one play in the second to change that.  Roback found Scott Holbert on a 75-yard post pattern that made the score 10-0.  After quickly stopping the Buckeyes next possession, the Tomcats moved the ball to the Nelsonville-York four-yard line where Scott Christman pushed the Tomcat lead to 17-0.  Prior to the end of the first half, Roback kicked the longest field goal in Trimble history, connecting from 44-yards out, and the 'Cats took a 20-0 lead to the half.  On the second play of the Buckeyes first drive of the third quarter, Christman recovered a fumble that Gene Campbell turned into a 33 yard touchdown run on the next play.  Then Mark Echstenkamper intercepted a Buckeye pass and returned it 56 yards to make the score 34-0.  In the fourth quarter Echstenkamper scored his second touchdown, rushing in from 11 yards to end the scoring and giving the Tomcats a 41-0 win.  Trimble succeeded it's goal of going undefeated, winning the TVC, and making the OHSAA state playoffs.
