As a player, tonight’s honoree did not lead the Tomcats to a winning season, or a league championship.  In fact, tonight’s honoree did not attend high school in Trimble Township, but is a graduate of Nelsonville High School.

He was selected for this award as a means of honoring his lifetime of commitment to the people of this community.  Commitment is an essential component of success, whether it be in athletics, or in life itself.  And tonight’s honoree has demonstrated his commitment in many ways: through his professional life; through his service as an elected public official, and through his involvement with the young people of the community.

Tonight’s honoree maintained a medical practice in Glouster from 1939 until 1993.  This is a total of 54 years.  During that time, he delivered over 3,600 babies, including I’m sure, many of you who are present here this evening.

As a public official, he served as mayor of Glouster for four years, Athens County Coroner for eight years, and was a member of the Glouster School Board for 20 years.

He coached football and basketball at Glouster High School from 1942 to 1944 and served as team physician at the high school for a total of 35 years.

Through his various commitments, tonight’s honoree managed to pack 124 years of service into a lifetime that spanned 85 years.  He has been an inspiration and a role model, not only for his family, but for all of us who knew him.
